What Is Chiropractic
What is chiropractic?

Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, meaning you do not need a referral from your doctor to consult a chiropractor. They are trained to assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, particularly issues related to the spine and their effects on the nervous system and overall health. By using specific adjustments and manipulations, chiropractic care helps to restore alignment, alleviate discomfort and improve the overall function of joints and muscles.

They are highly trained in finding the cause of spine pain. In the UK, they undergo a minimum of four years of full-time training. Importantly, chiropractors are regulated by law and must work within strict professional and ethical boundaries.

What to expect at your initial consultation

Before starting any treatment at Richards Chiropractic, Sarah will carry out a thorough consultation and assessment to ensure your care is safe, effective, and tailored to your needs. This includes discussing your current symptoms, medical history, and overall health, followed by a physical examination to assess how your body is functioning.

You may be asked to undress for certain parts of the examination so that movement, alignment, and posture can be properly assessed. A gown will be provided for ladies, and men are welcome to bring a pair of shorts to wear during the assessment.

If needed, Sarah may recommend further tests such as X-rays, MRI scans, or blood work to support an accurate diagnosis. Gathering this information helps us to understand the root cause of your musculoskeletal pain, allowing us to develop a treatment plan that’s right for you.
